Ruth B. Brungardt, 70, of Brush, died Sunday, June 3, 2001 at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center. Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, at Heer Mortuary, 222 Cameron St. in Brush. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 8, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 340 Stanford, Brush. Burial will be at the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Brungardt was born on July 23, 1930 to Jesse and Goldie Varney in Culbertson, Neb. She received her teaching certificate and taught in a small country school near Elba. On Sept. 15, 1949 she married George Brungardt in Akron. They started farming south of Brush in 1952 and moved into Brush in 1981. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Morgan County Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, Brush Fair Share and AARP. She enjoyed square dancing. Brungardt is survived by a daughter, Ann Staley of Pensacola, Fla.; two sons, David Brungardt of Sterling and Mark Brungardt of Brush; two brothers, Robert Varney of Bradenton, Fla., and Dean Varney of Lusk, Wyo.; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband George Brungardt; and a brother, Norman Varney.
